Lake Gwelup Primary School

Lake Gwelup Primary School provides a dedicated music program for its students. The program provides all students from Year 1 to Year 6 with general music instruction each week and also provides instrumental tuition to selected students in Years 5 & 6.

Whole school 'community singing' has also been a feature of school assemblies. Special music assemblies also combine the choral and instrumental groups, allowing students to perform on a regular basis.

Instrumental Program

In Year 4 students are tested and then selected to play a range of instruments. Those who demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for music receive tuition from IMSS (Instrumental Music School Services) specialist teachers who visit the school to conduct lessons.

LGPS students can engage in a range of instrumental tuition, including flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and baritone. Instrument hire is available for Year 5 students and Year 6 students purchase or hire privately.

All instrumental students become part of the LGPS school band with Year 5 students joining in Semester 2 each year.

Performance opportunities include Open Night, Big Band Strawberry Band for Year 6 students and school assemblies.

There are two choirs at the school with all Year 3 students taking part in the Junior Choir. Students who wish to continue can join the Senior Choir from Years 4 to 6.

Lake Gwelup Primary  provides a variety of community and school performance opportunities, such as the Massed Choir Festival, One Big Voice, the Osborne Park Show, visits to local retirement villages and shopping centres and special school assemblies. Senior Choir members are required to attend one rehearsal each week.

Ukulele Club

There is a lunchtime ukulele club throughout the year for interested students. They are given the opportunity to perform at lunchtime concerts and occasionally at other events.
